Lazarke
St. Lazarus day song
SHOPPE REGION BULGARIA
Some version of this two-part Shoppe song is traditionally sung on St. Lazarus day throughout Bulgaria. More than a specific 'song' this is a representation of the singing done on this day, wherein two young people walk from village to village singing out gossip and nonsense to their neighbors in a kind of parade.

Our arrangement comes from the Bulgarka Quartet and is sung like this:

Section 1 - Duet/Full Choir/Duet/Full Choir
Section 2 - Full Choir
Section 3 - Duet
Section 4 - Two singers on top, choir on drone

Eh, I shall go, I shall lead, eh,
Lazare, a horse to the water
Eh, my horse started to swell
and run away
Eh, I shall go, I shall lead, eh,
Lazare, a horse to water
The sun was trembling, young Jovane,
It was trembling and then it has set, young Jovane
Done picked herbs
In the field
In the field of Uruchko she picked herbs
In the field.
Two young perople agreed
Mitre and Dimitre,
and you should come too.
They agreed to run away.
Mitre and Dimitre,
and you should come too.
